Gynecology and Obstetrics

Obstetrics and gynaecology are referred to as “OB-GYN“. It is a field of medicine that specialises in the treatment of problems of the reproductive system and the management of women’s reproductive health, including pregnancy and childbirth.

The treatment of expectant mothers and their unborn children, including prenatal, labour and delivery, and postpartum care, is referred to as obstetrics. Contrarily, gynaecology focuses on the identification and management of diseases that impact the female reproductive system, including polycystic ovary syndrome, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis (PCOS).

A wide range of services, such as annual check-ups, advice on contraception, menopausal management, and treatment for gynecologic problems, are all things that OB-GYNs are equipped to offer. Additionally, they could offer advice and support regarding sexual wellbeing and health

Treatment Options

  • Prenatal care: OB-GYNs offer prenatal care to track the mother’s and the unborn child’s health during pregnancy. Physical examinations, laboratory tests, and imaging tests like ultrasound may all fall under this category.
  • Deliveries: OB-GYNs are trained to attend to both the mother and the baby during labor and delivery.
  • Postpartum care: Following delivery, OB-GYNs offer postpartum care to guarantee the health and speedy recovery of both mother and child. This can involve scheduling follow-up visits, getting help with nursing and child care, and getting counselling on reproductive health and contraception.
  • Gynecological care: A variety of preventative and diagnostic services for women, such as pap smears for cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccines for the prevention of certain cancers, and tests for other illnesses like osteoporosis and breast cancer. They can also identify and treat diseases like menopause, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids.
